Tanjung Kelayang: Indonesia's The Best Tourism Special Economic Zone

BELITONGEKSPRES.CO.ID, SIJUK - The Tanjung Kelayang Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Sijuk District, Belitung Regency, has been recognized as the best SEZ in Indonesia.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, revealed that Tanjung Kelayang in Belitung has been acknowledged as the best SEZ in Indonesia during his visit to the Creative Tourism Village of Terong last week.

Minister Sandiaga Uno stated that he plans to invite President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, to inaugurate several new facilities in the Tanjung Kelayang Tourism SEZ.

"I will invite President Jokowi to visit Tanjung Kelayang," said the Minister, expressing his hope for the presence of world-class events to reopen the Belitung International Airport.

With the upcoming development of new facilities in the Tanjung Kelayang SEZ, Sandiaga Uno aims to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector in Belitung, known as the Land of the Rainbow Troops.

"Furthermore, it is targeted that by 2024, the Tanjung Kelayang Tourism SEZ will create 4.4 million job opportunities in Belitung," revealed the Minister.

In addition, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia is targeting international flights to attract foreign tourists to Belitung, specifically Tanjungpandan - Kuala Lumpur and Tanjungpandan - Singapore routes.

"We previously operated flights to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore before they were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic," explained Sandiaga Uno.

To reopen the possibility of international flights, Sandiaga hopes that the Belitung local government will organize international events, such as world-class triathlons.

"Last year, Belitung successfully hosted the G20 Summit. We will organize prestigious events like triathlons in Belitung," stated the Minister.

"By doing so, we can provide a compelling reason for international flights to resume operations and enter Tanjungpandan," he concluded. (*)
